A two-day National Brainstorming-cum-Consultative Workshop on “Scientific Validation and Research on Panchgavya” (SVAROP/स्वरुप) supported by DST, DBT and CSIR under the Ministry of Science and Technology was inaugurated by Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Hon’ble Minister, Science & Technology, Govt. of India on 18th December, 2016 at IIT Delhi. He highlighted the importance of scientific validation of Panchgavya for various applications. He emphasised that use of Panchgavya in practice and in daily routines will help to address the pressing global issues like climate change, resistance development, malnourishment, global health etc. He commended IIT Delhi for taking up the scientific validation part of research already done ages ago to make it a testimonial in modern evidence based science. The secretary DST also highlighted the importance of knowledge on homogenised and non-homogenised milk for consumption. Advisor DBT shared the significance of indigenous biological sources for development of vaccines against many diseases to which indigenous cattle is naturally resistant. Around 200 participants were there which includes Scientist from DST, DBT, CSIR, ICAR, ICMR, NDRI, IVRI, IITs, NITs, Universities, and Panchgavya practitioners, gaushalas and research students of IIT Delhi. The aim of this workshop is to facilitate coordinated Research Project on “Scientific Validation And Research On Panchgavya (SVAROP)” under the aegis of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan.
This initiative involved participation of Research Institutions, Academics, Grassroots Organizations and so on. It will provide a common platform for discussion and collaborative working of various groups for smooth, rapid and effective design and execution of “SVAROP” in a network mode. It will also provide a firm backbone for R&D in the field of Panchgavya with Scientific validation and standardized production of related products.
Dr. Vijay P Bhatkar (Chairman, National Steering Committee UBA), Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao (Director, IIT Delhi), Prof. Ashutosh Sharma (Secretary, DST), Prof. V. K. Vijay (Coordinator, UBA & SVAROP), Dr. Anil Kumar Tripathi (Director, CIMAP), Dr. Sanjay Maheshwari (Prominent Surgeon and Panchgavya Practioner), Dr. S. R. Rao (Advisor, DBT), Dr. Sunil Mansingka, Govigyan Anusnadhan Kendra addressed the gathering and shared their experience about Panchgavya.
Five key note speakers shared their research experience and give background of Panchgavya for five different group of applications which are as follows, Prof. R. S. Chauhan – Uniqueness of Indigenous Cows; Dr. Ajit Kelkar – Panchgavya in Agriculture; Dr. Nandini Bhojraj – Panchgavya in Medicine and Health; Dr. Hemant Purohit – Panchgavya in Food and Nutrition; Mr. Sunil Mansingka – Panchgavya for Utilities, Product & Process.
On the second half of the program, researchers with common interest are grouped into five broad areas and deliberated about the requirement of scientific validation of Panchgavya in five areas. Towards the end of the day, each group was come up with around 12-15 project proposal which can address the most important ambiguity present among the users of Panchgavya. By the end of the day, conveners of each group presented the project outlines emerged out of detailed deliberation. The participants and chairman of each group suggested valuable modification which shaped up these portfolios of the projects in a positive direction.
