The 1st Capacity Building and Participatory Planning Workshop during January 4-6, 2017 was held at NIRD&PR Hyderabad. In this workshop 30 Participating Institutes (PIs) included IITs, NITs, Central Universities, other Higher Education Instutions throughout country participated. The 3-day training session comprised of the inagural session in which delibrations were held regarding taking forward the UBA initiative in the country. Sensitisation of the nodal officers of participating institutions under UBA was done about the participatory planning to formulate Gram Panchayat development plan. The training sessions also covered the village visits and interaction with the villagers. All the Nodal Officers were given hands on training about the resource survey methodology to be followed during the village survey activity. The 3-Day training program included the lecture series and framework for the preparation of Village Development Plan.
The training sessions also covered following aspects:-
Survey of the cluster village for identification of problem areas.
Need and requirement assessment with incorporation of knowledge inputs and finalize them with active participation of local bodies and communities, panchayat etc.
Utilization of the existing knowledge base and area wise classification of issues such as drinking water, education, health, agricultural practices, electrification, agricultural and rural industries, cooking energy, and watershed analysis.
Foster collaborations between governance, knowledge institutions and local communities.
The visit to the village Mittapally, District Siddipet, Telangana was organized for conducting the field survey and development of Resource Map. The field survey of this village was undertaken to understand the availability of resources and identification of areas where technical interventions can be applied for improving the condition of the village. The participants were divided into four groups each having a Resource Person allocated by NIRD&PR for guidance and building the rapport with the villagers. All four groups thoroughly surveyed the village and came up with the required suggestions. The four teams studied condition of the village covering different aspects such as the Rural Housing, Social mapping, Drainage, Livelihood, Groundwater salinity, Primary health and education, Food and nutrition. Their suggestions included providing Vocational training for young men (driving school), Skill development for ladies (tailoring training center), career counselling center for educated youth, agro-service implementation, installation of Solar lights and biogas plants, provision of water filtration technology, multi cropping pattern, medicinal plantation with setup of processing unit and setup of food processing unit like Pickles making, etc.
